It’s not too late for Spring Cleaning!

“Spring Cleaning” is a term used for the idea of starting fresh with a new season. It’s a chance to leave the cold winter months behind and welcome spring by cleaning up the inside and outside of your home. The sunny days of spring tend to be more motivational than dreary winter days to do this. Even though cleaning is not everyone’s cup of tea, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be fun!

Welcome the Natural Light

There is nothing better than spring days filled with blue skies, fresh air, and most importantly: sun light.

A great way to make sure your home is getting all the natural light possible is to clean the windows. When was the last time you cleaned not only the inside of your windows, but also the outside? Begin by dusting and removing any dirt from the window frames using a small vacuum or towel. Go the extra mile and wash your screens by placing them in a large bin filled with hot water and dish soap. Then rinse them off and let them dry. If you have blinds or shades, a simple way to clean them is by using a wet rag to swipe in between each slab. For the window panes, use Windex or a window cleaner. Now you have created the opportunity for allowing the most sunlight possible into your home.

3 ways to make Spring Cleaning fun:

Turn it into a party

Choose a weekend with a clear forecast and plan a weekend spring-cleaning party. Whether the “party” is by yourself or with friends or family, make a playlist, buy snacks and drinks, and make it an enjoyable day for cleaning up your yard, garage, and home!

Organize the process

Cleaning your entire house can be overwhelming, especially if you start without a plan. Grab your favorite blanket, drink, and notebook, cozy up and plan out the details for the upcoming clean. For example, if your family is going to be a part of the process assign each member to a specific room and even write down the tasks each room requires. Doing this can significantly reduce the stress of knowing where to start and it can keep everyone on track!

Declutter with incentives

Often times we don’t realize how many clothes, toys, kitchen tools, etc. we accumulate. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to reevaluate what you really need and what can be donated, recycled, or thrown out. Are your children helping? Kids love being in charge, especially if incentives are involved. If your children are participating, use an incentive plan that works for your family and watch how quickly some of their old toys end up in the donation bin!

Avoid harsh cleaning products by making your own

Many name brand cleaning products consist of harsh chemicals that you may not want to breathe in. By making your own cleaning solutions from scratch, you can control the ingredients and avoid chemicals.

Bathroom cleaner:

Use an old spray bottle or jar and combine: 1.5 cups baking soda, ½ cup warm water, ½ cup of liquid soap, 2 tbsp of white distilled vinegar, and optional splash of lemon juice.

All-purpose cleaning spray:

Use an old spray bottle or jar and combine: 13 oz hot water, ½ cup of white vinegar, and essential oils (a great combination is 15 drops gratefruit, 10 drops lavender, 10 drops lemon).

Hardwood floor cleaner:

In a medium-sized bucket, combine 1 gallon warm water and 2 tbsp dish soap.
